Dear Our Lady of Mount Carmel Families,
As I write this, I am so filled with joy as we approach Spring and are continuing our celebration of our 100th Anniversary Year. It has been great to celebrate this milestone and 100 years of teaching the Catholic faith here at OLMC. The last five months were highlighted by Alumni visits, A Mass and celebration with Cardinal Dolan and our Superintendant Sr. Mary Grace and events that have highlighted our commitmrnt to Catholic Education in the Belmont Community in the Bronx. We are so happy and proud of our beloved students. We especially wish our eighth graders the best of luck in choosing their high schools for next year and we are so proud of their performance on their TACHS exams and the results they have received. We are looking forward to many upcoming events this Spring like our Card Party on May 3rd and our Drama Club's performance of Moana Jr. the following week to list a couple. So much is happening at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and we are planning for more. This all leads us toward 2025-2026 and THE 101st year of our wonderful school. We have so much to be thankful for and we are so thankful here at OLMC. Now more than ever our Catholic faith must be the bedrock of our very foundation. We at Mount Carmel have worked hard in the face of arguably the greatest challenges faced by any generation in recent times. Teachers, Parents,Staff and Students have come together to continue the great tradition of Catholic Education here at Mount Carmel. We have perservered together and it has made our family stronger and forced us to be better. The teamwork shown by all those collective groups is what makes us succesful and allowed us to persevere. We do it together! I am so proud of what we have accomplished in my six years at OLMC. I am so proud of the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff, the patience and thankfulness of our parents and the courage and strength of our wonderful students, but our work continues and we continue to plan and focus on the future and the next 100 years of wonderful students to come. We must continue to dedicate ourselves to our Catholic faith in the face of what are still difficult times.. We are mindful, vigilant , but we are confident that together we can be successful in anything we put our mind to. As we move into Spring, we again continue upgrading in all areas especially school safety and technology. We are in the early stages of planning and designing a new state of the art computer room to replace our current computer room. Again, this will assist our students with getting ahead in the area of technology and prepare them for both what lies ahead in high school and college. Last school year, we completed an upgrade in both our security camera and school intercom system, as well as upgrading our security doors. We are again up and running in our quest to build up our Art and Music Program with programs such as Piano and Guitar lessons and a fantastic Drama Club. We have updated our classrooms with new air Conditioners this past Summer that were much needed. Last year we also added a Student Council and created a new Home School Association to encourage both our students and parents to become more involved and a part of our school. Both of these groups have been successful on assisting with enhancing THE MOUNT CARMEL EXPERIENCE. In 2025-2026, we are also committed on continuing our relationship with Fordham University ,so our students may enjoy and can enjoy the beautiful college campus that is just a stones throw away. We continue to be dedicated to educating the whole student, mind, body and spirit. I ask that we all continue to work hard and be vigilant to ensure that our children stay happy and healthy. The children are our greatest gift and we must do all we can to provide them with any resources at our disposal to ensure their success. We are hopeful that any students looking for a new home ,also choose to send your child to OLMC for the 2025-2026 school year. We would be happy to have you as part of our special family and hope you put your faith in Catholic Education and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Our door is always open to those who are also interested in joining our family. May God Bless you and Best of Luck to all our students and teachers for the rest of this school year and the 2025- 2026 school year ahead. Let us look ahead to the Spring and the wonderful times and experiences that lay ahead.
Regards and Blessings,
Mr. John Musto, Principal
